== Cards == Cards are items as defined by the rules, which are included in a player's hand. When an entity becomes a player for the first time, they gain 3+(phase-1) random cards. When an entity who was previously a player becomes a player, they gain some number of random cards equal to the number of phases since they were last a player. When a rule or action calls for a player to draw a card, one random card is made and put into the possession of the player who the text referred to. When a player plays a card, the card is removed their hand, and any actions defined by the card's description are carried out in a timely and unambiguous manner by the player who played it. When a card is discarded, it is removed from its previous status, any effects it had end, and it is no longer considered to be played. All cards have a name and a description. Each phase, a player may draw one card and play one card. When a card refers to "you" in its description, it refers to the player who played the card. Each card has a type, which is defined in the table below. {| class="wikitable" |+ !Type !Description |- |Action |When an action card is played, the player who played it must carry out the actions defined in the description of the card. Then the card is discarded. |- |Keeper |Keeper cards do not contain descriptions. A player may play a keeper card at any time, regardless of how many cards they have already played in the current phase. Keeper cards do not add to the maximum number of cards a player may play per phase. |- |Goal |When a goal card is played, the last played goal card is discarded. A goal card has a condition which players should attempt to meet. |- |New Rule |When a new rule card is played, its effect governs the state of play as if it were a rule. The effect of a new rule card continues in effect until either a card which calls for it to be discarded is played or a card whose effect would conflict with the previous card, in which case it is discarded. |} After a goal or new rule card is played, or if an action card whose effect would effect the current goal or new rule cards in play, its effect is not enacted until the beginning of a phase. If multiple cards whose effects would conflict with each other are played during the same phase, they take effect simultaneously, with the most recently played one ultimately taking effect. === Card tables === The following table describes the possible goal cards. {| class="wikitable" |+ !Name !Description |- |Steal a keeper |Choose one keeper currently played by another player, and remove it from their possession and place it in yours instead. |- |Rules reset |Discard all currently played new rules, as well as the current goal. |- |Draw 2 and use โem |Draw 2 cards, and immediately play them in whichever order you like. |- |Gambling |Choose a value for ''n''. Then draw ''n'' cards and if none of them are keeper cards, you keep them all. Otherwise, discard them. |- |Trash a new rule |Discard one currently played new rule. |} The following table describes the keeper cards. {| class="wikitable" |+ !Name |- |Sun |- |Moon |- |Death |- |Taxes |- |Love |- |Peace |- |Book |} The following table describes the possible goal cards. {| class="wikitable" |+ !Name !Description |- |Night and day |Have the sun and the moon played at the same time |- |Certainty |Have death and taxes played at the same time |- |Hippyism |Have love and peace played at the same time |- |All you need is love |Have love played with no other keepers played. |- |I might need a bookshelf |Have 6 books played at the same time. |- |10 cards in hand |Hold at least 10 cards in your hand. |} The following table describes the possible new rule cards. {| class="wikitable" |+ !Name !Description |- |Do some more |Players may draw and play one additional card per phase. This card is not discarded when another of the same kind is played. |- |Hand limit 5 |Players may hold no more than 5 cards in their hand. If a player holds more than 5 cards in their hand at the end of a phase, cards are randomly chosen and discarded from their hand until they hold 5 cards. |- |Play all |If a player chooses to play a card during a phase, they must play every single card in their hand. |- |Nice try |The next time a player completes the requirements on a goal card, this card and the goal is immediately discarded. Rules to the contrary notwithstanding, the player who met the goal cardโs requirement does not win the game. |}
