Off to the Races is a Limited Access game that multiple players may begin participating in by announcing their intent to do so in #the-raceway.

''Each player submits an existing card to be their horse in the race. A race consists of a number of legs with a finish line at the end, and each horse starts at leg 0. Cards are repeatedly drawn, and each horse that matches the suit or rank of that card moves up a leg. After all horses move above a given leg, an "obstacle" card is drawn and each horse that matches that card's suite or rank moves down a leg. The horse that reaches the finish first is the winner.''
After a player begins participating in this game, but before the Race begins, the player may select a card that would be available to draw for lots in the '''Auctions''' rule to be their Horse in this Race. The player may also choose a name for their horse. Horses have a ''suit'' and ''rank'' that matches the card selected for them, if that card has that attribute, and are not items. A player may not select a card with an identical suit and rank as another horse.

''Winners place a bet on their horse before a race. There is a multiplicative payout on the bet based on the odds that a card benefiting that horse will be drawn. Players, horse-owning or not, may also place bets on other horses.''
Before the Race begins, any player participating in the game may place bets on the horses they think will win. Bets must be a positive, non-zero integer that is at most the number of chips in the player currently possesses. When a player places a bet, they lose that many chips.

''For example, if you have 140 possible cards (after booster packs get passed), and your horse is one of 22 Tarot cards (22 ranks but no suit), then that horse's payout odds would be 22:140.''
Each Horse in the Race has an Odds attribute. The Odds for a horse is given by a fraction defined as D/N, where N is the number of cards that share the horse's rank or suit and D is the total number of unique cards that could've be drawn.

When all players that have horses agree for the Race to begin, then the race begins.

The Length of the Race is equal to either 5 or the number of participating players that have horses in the Race. A horse wins the Race when they have a Position that is greater than the Length of the Race. The Race ends when one or more horses win the Race. When the race begins, all horses in the Race start with a Position of 0.

To progress the race, perform the following steps in order, and repeat until one or more horses win the race. Any player with a horse in the race may perform any of the following steps, so long as they are performed in the right order.
* Draw a card using the same method in which a card is drawn for a lot
''Note: standardize drawing cards ffs''
* Determine all horses in the race that share either a suit or rank with the drawn card, and increase their Position by 1
* If this is the first time that all horses have surpassed a given position:
** Draw a card using the same method in which a card is drawn for a lot
** Determine all horses in the race that share either a suit or rank with the drawn card, and decrease their Position by 1

After the Race ends, each player that had a winning horse in the race receives a number of chips equal their initial bet multiplied by their Horse's Odds. If a player ceases participating in the game before the race ends, then they get no chips, even if their horse were to win.

The game ends after chips are awarded to the winning players, or after all players with horses in the race cease playing.
