Gamestate

Initial Ruleset

The Inital Ruleset was as follows:

  1. Players take turns adding a proposal to the game. A proposal can be changing an existing rule, deleting an existing rule, or making a completely new rule. You may only make 1 proposal on your turn. The player(s) whose turn it is can be found in #turns.
  2. When a proposal is made in #proposals, a @Moderator will add it to #voting. If the rule has more votes for than against after 48 hours of it being in #voting, it will be added to #official-rules (or other appropriate thing will happen) and it will have an immediate effect from then on.
  3. The first player to reach 1000 points, wins the game.

History

The game began at the end of November 2018 as a basic turn-based Nomic. The first proposal (written by Slimey) was submitted on 4 December 2018 with a few more proposals coming in during the following days. Several interesting mechanics were created during this period, including TripleVotes, a marketplace of items, and the incentivization of proposing and voting through coin payouts. This phase of the game was very casual and more about having fun rather than creating a future-proof Nomic.

At the beginning of January, the Constitution, a very long rule which would govern the most important parts of a Nomic game and therefore had a higher standard for amendment, was proposed by the player Gurktwerk and accepted. The Constitution interestingly made obsolete all the initial rules. From this point, even more disparate elements were introduced, including a system of vassalage and lordship as well as a Merchant class who gained extra coins from normal activity. Gamestate tracking was also relegated to [Github repository]. This repository was in use until early August 2019, at which point all gamestate tracking was moved to the [Nomic Wiki].

The game got more and more complicated as time went on but there was still very little thematic consistency. Eventually Cuddlebeam found a scam within the economic system which included the Merchant role, and used it to boost Klink to victory.

At the end of March, a proposal was created that would modify the Constitution, instituting a new round. It was passed and the round ended officially not too long after.
